UMBC to Discontinue Men’s and Women’s Tennis ProgramsThe UMBC Athletics Department recently submitted a proposal to the University Athletics Policy Committee to discontinue the University’s men’s and women’s Division I tennis programs. Following the process established by the University Policy on Adding or Terminating a Varsity Sport, the Committee recommended elimination of the programs to President Hrabowski, who has authorized this step, effective after the Spring 2016 semester.
UMBC Winter-Spring Athletes Excel in America East Honor Roll RankingsBoston - A record number of UMBC winter-spring student athletes earned America East Conference Honor Roll status and Commissioner’s Honor Roll accolades in figures released by the league on July 23. 169 of the 273 Retriever athletes (61.9 percent) that competed in the winter and spring seasons earned a 3.00 grade-point average and 87 posted a 3.50 figure, both department records for the period

Retrievers Land 164 Student-Athletes on America East Spring Honor RollCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Nearly 60-percent of UMBC’s 280 student-athletes who competed on winter or spring America East-sponsored sports squads earned America East Honor Roll distinction after achieving grade-point averages (GPA) of 3.00 or higher during the spring term, the conference office announced on Wednesday, July 10.
Six UMBC Graduates Among Inaugural America East Presidential Scholar-AthletesCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Six UMBC student-athletes were among the 48 America East student-athletes named to the conference’s inaugural Presidential Scholar-Athlete class for their outstanding academic achievements throughout their collegiate careers. Approved by the America East Board of Presidents last June and implemented for 2013-14 academic year, the Presidential Scholar-Athlete award recognizes graduating student-athletes who compiled a cumulative grade-point-average (GPA) of 3.75 or higher as an undergraduate student.

Kathy Zerrlaut Announces Retirement After 41 Years at UMBCUMBC has been around for 48 years, first opening its classrooms in the fall of 1966. Kathy Zerrlaut has been on the campus for 41 of those fall openings. But the person that has coached more athletic contests in the school’s history and has presided over the direction of the program as an administrator for much of her tenure has announced her retirement at the end of June 2014.
UMBC Athletics Partners With Presto Sports for New UMBCRetrievers.ComUMBC Athletics has partnered with Presto Sports to redesign and relaunch its website, www.umbcretrievers.com. The new design was unveiled on Monday, Jan. 20, 2013.
The desktop site will be accompanied by a mobile site, UMBC Front Row, with applications available through ITunes in the Apple Store and via Android’s Google Play.
