UMBC Downs Stony Brook, 2-1 in Extra Innings; Retrievers Earn Two Seed in America East Tournament

Baltimore, Md.-- UMBC had just five hits all game, but got a big one from Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) in the tenth to take a 2-1 extra inning win on Saturday. The win gives UMBC the two seed in the America East Tournament and a first round bye.

Neither side could get much going early, as Kevin Kernan and Michael Austin (Eldersburg, Md./Bethune-Cookman) held the other side in check early.

Stony Brook had a pair of chances in the first three innings, getting runners to second and third, but each time Austin got out of the jam.

UMBC was held without a hit until AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) broke through with a double to deep left in the fourth.

The Seawolves would strike first, getting an RBI single from Dylan Resk in the eighth to take a 1-0 lead.

Raven Beeman (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) tied it after taking the first pitch of the ninth to deep center field for his third home run of the year. UMBC would have a chance in the tenth on a suicide squeeze, but Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) would be called out.

The Retrievers would get the walk-off on a Collin Stack double just pitches later that scored Connor Staskey (Virginia Beach, Va./Temple).

UMBC mustered just five hits, but the biggest came from Stack in the ninth, as five different Retrievers had hits.

UMBC will be the two seed in the America East Tournament, and will have a first round bye. They will play Thursday at 2:30 p.m., opponent TBD.
