Baseball Enters Pivotal Weekend Series Against Stony Brook; Will Honor Ten Seniors on Saturday

Baltimore, Md. -- UMBC baseball enters the last weekend of the season in a pivotal matchup against Stony Brook, before the team heads up to Lowell, Massachusetts for the America East Tournament. The Retrievers only need to win one game to clinch the second seed in the tournament, but still have a chance to earn the number one overall seed and regular season title.

UMBC will also be honoring their ten seniors on Saturday, as part of their contributions to the UMBC baseball team.

When: Friday (DH) and Saturday, May 19-20, both games starting at noon

Scouting the Retrievers (19-21, 10-7):

-UMBC is coming off a come from behind win against Georgetown on Tuesday evening. After being down four, the Retrievers put together eight straight runs to take the lead 8-4. The Hoyas would get a run back in the eighth inning, but UMBC would hold on to win, 8-5. Senior Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) had two home runs on the day, as he went 3-for-4 with four RBI.

-Junior Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) leads the Retrievers to the plate with a .333 average. Senior Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) is right behind stack with a .329 average with a team high 54 hits. Dolshun continues to gun for the triple crown on the team, as he leads the team in home runs (nine) and RBI (33) with the third best average (.328)

-Freshman Mitchell Wilson (Hagerstown, Md./St. James) holds down the staff with five wins, followed by four different Retrievers with three wins each. Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) leads the team with 51.1 innings pitched and 47 strikeouts. Andy Rozylowicz (Laurel, Md./Dematha) has the team lead in ERA with a 3.94 clip.

Scouting the Seawolves (23-23, 10-9):

-Stony Brook is coming off of a doubleheader sweep of the defending champion Binghamton on Sunday. They took the first game by the score of 17-9, before winning the second game 4-1. The third place Seawolves are two games behind UMBC.

-At the plate, Toby Handley leads the team with a .351 average to go along with a team-high 34 RBI. Dylan Resk has gone long 11 times this year, as he is the team leader in home runs and has 26 RBI.

-Teddy Rodliff leads Stony Brook on the mound with a 2.76 ERA, and shares the team lead for wins with Kevin Kernan with four a piece. Brian Hermann leads the team in innings pitched with 67.2, while Greg Marino has a team-high 53 strikeouts.

All Time Series:

-UMBC and Stony Brook have met a total of 61 times, with Stony Brook holding a 50-11 lead. The last time the teams played, it was a three game series in Stony Brook last season. UMBC dropped the first two games, but managed to take the third game in 11 innings.

Up Next:

-UMBC will travel up to Lowell, Massachusetts to prepare for the 2017 America East Tournament. The tournament is scheduled to start on Wednesday, May 24 and last until Saturday, May 27 in a double elimination format.
