UMBC Baseball Drops Series Finale Against Albany, 10-2 on Sunday

Albany, N.Y.—UMBC baseball dropped the final game of their three game series against Albany on Sunday, 10-2. The Retrievers produced nine hits, but had five errors leading to ten Great Dane runs.

UMBC falls to 16-18, 9-6 AE on the year while Albany moves to 15-22, 4-11 AE.

Freshman Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) went 2-2 from the plate with a pair of walks, while Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./WT Woodson) also had two hits with one RBI.

The Retrievers got out to an early 1-0 lead after back-to-back errors by Albany on swings by AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland).

However the Great Danes tied the game on a Travis Collins solo home run in the third, and took the lead on three runs in the fourth. 

UMBC struck back in the eighth off a Bright RBI single that scored Switalski, cutting the lead to 6-2. Albany would add four runs in their half of the eighth to put UMBC away for good to take a 10-2 victory. 

Mitchell Carroll (Oakton, Va./Oakton) added two hits for the Black and Gold. 

The Retrievers return to the diamond on Tuesday, May 2 at Navy. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
