Scouting the Retrievers (9-13):

-The Retrievers enter the week with a 9-13 record after going 2-2 last week with wins against Delaware and Binghamton. UMBC took the middle game of the three game series against the Bearcats, 12-3 to move to 3-3 in America East play.

-Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) leads a quartet of Retrievers who are hitting over .300 this year at .356. He has 21 hits with 15 runs scored and 13 RBI. Jamie Switalski (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland), Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) and Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) are all over .300 having played in every game this year. Stack leads the group with 16 RBI.

-Joe Vanderplas (Fairfax, Va./Tennessee) leads the rotation with a 5.04 ERA with a team best three wins this year. Vanderplas has thrown 25 innings with 15 strikeouts in 2017. Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) leads the staff with 31.0 innings pitched with 35 strikeouts.

Scouting the Colonials (15-17):

-George Washington enters the matchup with the Retrievers at 15-17 after taking two of three from A-10 foe Richmond this past weekend. The Colonials took game one 4-2 before falling 8-5 in the middle game. GW used a big offensive day in game three to win the series, 10-4 on Sunday.

-Bobby Campbell leads the Colonial offense with a .372 average. Campbell leads the team in several offensive categories, including hits (45), runs scored (23), home runs (5), and RBI (24). Joey Bartosic has shown some speed on the base paths with 12 stolen bases this year.

-Brady Renner leads the rotation with a 2.20 ERA and 4-3 record in eight starts in 2017. He has thrown 45 innings with 23 strikeouts. GW will trot out Emmett Harkins on Tuesday. Harkins is 0-0 with a 3.38 ERA having thrown 2.2 innings this year.

Scouting the Eagles (6-20):

-Coppin State sits at 6-20 on the year after going 1-2 against Eastern Shore this past weekend. The Eagles dropped game one 4-3 before winning 1-0 in the middle game. The Hawks took game three 7-4 to take the series on Sunday.

-Nazier McIlwain leads the Eagle offense with a .378 batting average, leading the team with 34 hits and 24 RBI in 25 games played. Brett Helmbrecht is second on the team with a .328 average with 21 hits in 64 at bats.

-Krystian Negron leads the pitching staff with 24 strikeouts in 19.2 innings with one save in five appearances. Corey Treyes has the best ERA on the team at 2.70 in 10.0 innings pitched.

All-Time Series:

-The Retrievers and Colonials will be meeting for the second time this year and for the 51st time in the all-time series with GW leading 32-18.

-The Colonials won the most recent meeting back on March 21 in Baltimore, 4-3. With the Colonials leading 3-0, UMBC scored three straight to tie it heading into the ninth. However a Bobby Campbell solo home run in the ninth would be the difference in a GW win.

-Coppin State and UMBC will meet for the 48th time with UMBC holding a commanding 46-1 lead in the all-time series. Last year the Retrievers swept the Eagles with 12-3 and 9-7 wins, both at Alumni Field.

-The lone Retriever loss came back in 2004, where Coppin State won 6-3 in extra innings.

On Deck:

-The Retrievers will head to Hartford for a three game America East series with the Hawks on Friday and Saturday, April 14-15. UMBC and Hartford will play a double header on Friday starting at noon, with a single game on Sunday also at noon.
