UMBC Baseball Begins Week Long Road Trip with Weekend Series Against Conference Foe Binghamton

Baltimore, Md. – The UMBC baseball team looks to extend their five-game win streak, when they travel to Binghamton to take on the Bearcats in an America East weekend series. The Retrievers, winners of six of their past seven games, redeemed an early season lost to Delaware on Wednesday night as a big fourth inning lead them to a 5-4 victory.

What: UMBC Retrievers (8-11, 2-1) vs. Binghamton Bearcats (10-5, 1-1)

Where: Binghamton Baseball Complex – Vestal, N.Y. 

When: Saturday (DH) and Sunday, April 8-9 – Both days starting at noon

Scouting the Retrievers (8-11, 2-1): 

-UMBC is coming off a 5-4 come from behind win against Delaware on Wednesday night. A five-run fourth inning lifted the Retrievers to their fifth straight win and their sixth out of seven games.

-Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) leads the in hitting with a batting average of .367 and is tied for the team lead in home runs with two. Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) leads the team in hits (22) and RBI (16). Christian Torres (Miami, Fla./Miami Senior) is riding an eight-game hitting streak where he is hitting .414 with three doubles and seven RBI.

-Matt Chanin (Olney, Md/Sherwood) leads the pitching staff with a 4.50 ERA in 24 innings pitched. Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va/Patriot) leads the team in strikeouts (29)  and innings pitched (25) in six appearances on the season.

Scouting the Bearcats (10-5, 1-1):

-Binghamton will be returning home after earning a win against Bucknell University on Wednesday 12-0. The weekend series against UMBC will be Binghamton's first games at home this season.

-Justin Yurchak leads the Bearcats at the plate, posting a .435 batting average with a team-high six doubles. Brendan Skidmore brings the power, as he leads the team in home runs (two) and RBI (14).

-Joe Orlando guides the pitching staff, going 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 16.2 innings pitched. Nick Gallagher leads the team in innings pitched (26.1) and strikeouts (24) while posting a 2-1 record with a 1.03 ERA.

All-Time Series:

-This will be the first matchup of the season between the two teams, but they have met 58 previous times with only three games not being as America East foes. Binghamton holds the lead in the series 42-16.

-UMBC had a seven-game win streak in the series halted last season, as Binghamton took the season series 2-1.

The Retrievers will remain on the road, as they travel to Arlington, Va. to play George Washington at Barcroft Park. The scheduled first pitch is on Tuesday, April 11  at 3:00 pm.
