UMBC Baseball Looks to Keep Momentum Rolling Against Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday

Baltimore, Md. – UMBC baseball looks to continue their momentum from Wednesday evening's win over George Mason, their third in four games, as they take on Mount St. Mary's on Sunday at Alumni Field. Originally scheduled for a home-and-home series, the two will play just a double header Sunday due to weather.

Scouting the Retrievers (5-11, 2-1 AE):

-The Retrievers followed up their series victory over Albany with a win over George Mason. UMBC got out to an early lead and never looked back, as they won the contest 4-2. Mitchell Wilson (Hagerstown, Md./St. James) guided the team on the mound to pick up his first career collegiate win. Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) went 3-for-4 and added his second homer of the season, to lead the Retrievers at the plate.

-Dolshun leads the offense, hitting .333, with a team-high two home runs and nine RBI. Collin Stack (Jamestown, N.Y./Monroe CC) leads the team in hits (18) and runs (11).

-Joe Vanderplas (Fairfax, Va./Tennessee) leads the rotation with a 2-2 record with a 4.15 ERA and ten strikeouts. Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) leads the staff with 22.2 innings pitched and 26 strikeouts in four starts.

Scouting the Mountaineers (4-15, 2-4 NEC):

-The Mount will be entering the contest against UMBC with a 4-15 record, and 2-4 in NEC games. The Mountaineers have four wins at home, but are 0-14 this season on the road. They are coming off a sweep of Eastern Shore at home this past Wednesday. The first game went to 11 innings, where they won 2-1 off a walkoff single. They then won 2-0 in game two of the doubleheader.

-Patrick Causa leads the team with a .295 batting average, and is tied for first in hits (23) and is second in RBI (11). Jared Urban brings the power for The Mount, with a team-high 10 extra base hits to go along with 10 RBI.

-Zach Call leads the team on the mound with a 3-1 record to go with a 6.48 ERA. Jordan Lawson leads the team in innings pitched (36.2) and ERA (3.68)

All-Time Series:

-The Mount and UMBC were former foes in the Northeast Conference from 1998-2003. They have met 91 times, with the Retrievers leading the all-time series 68-22-1.

-The Mount halted a nine-game losing streak to UMBC, as they won 5-3 in the most recent game during last season.

-UMBC will remain at home during the week, as they host Delaware on Wednesday, April 5, with first pitch scheduled for 6:00 pm at Alumni Field.
