Baltimore, Md.—UMBC baseball will travel down to North Carolina to take on UNC Asheville this weekend in a three game set with the Bulldogs. The Retrievers are coming off a 7-3 extra inning loss to Towson on Wednesday that saw UMBC come back from three down to force extras.

Scouting the Retrievers (1-7):
-The Retrievers are coming off a 7-3 loss to Towson on Wednesday in 11 innings. The Tigers got up 3-0 early, before UMBC put up three runs over the seventh and eighth. However in the 11th, Towson got a three-run home run and added another run to seal the win.
-Three Retrievers are hitting over .300, led by Zack Bright (Fairfax Station, Va./WT Woodson) at .364. Zack DeThomasis (Rennsalaer, N.Y./Hudson Valley CC) and Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) are batting .333 and .318 respectively. AJ Wright (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) and Andrew Casali (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan) pace the offense with five RBI each.
-UMBC will see Michael Austin (Eldersburg, Md./Bethune-Cookman), Matt Chanin (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and Jacob Christian (Nokesville, Va./Patriot) start this weekend. Chanin leads the rotation with a 4.15 ERA in two starts, striking out ten in 13 innings. Austin holds a 6.52 ERA in 9.2 innings of work, while Christian has a team best 14 strikeouts with a 5.79 ERA.
Scouting the Bulldogs (5-6):
-UNC Asheville comes into the weekend at 5-6 after dropping a 4-3 decision to Appalachian State on Wednesday in Boone, N.C. The Bulldogs hold a 2-1 record in Asheville, going 2-4 away from home and 1-1 in neutral site games.
-A trio of Bulldogs are batting over the .300 mark, led by Justin Woods. Woods is hitting .357 with ten hits and two home runs. Jake Madole is hitting .333 with a pair of doubles while Brandon Lankford is batting .326 with team bests in runs (11), home runs (4), and RBI (12).
-Spencer Orr leads the pitching staff, going 1-0 in three starts with a team best 19.1 innings pitched, fanning 12 batters. Woods also appears out of the bullpen for the Bulldogs, with five appearances and two saves in six innings of work.
-UMBC and UNC Asheville have met 17 times in the all-time series, with the Retrievers holding a slim 10-7 lead. UMBC has won two of the last three matchups, all played in Baltimore.
-The two have not met since 1998, when both were a part of the Big South Conference. All-time in Asheville, UMBC leads 5-4.
-The Retrievers will return home with a mid-week contest against Navy on Wednesday, March 15. First pitch at Alumni Field is set for 6 p.m.
