BALTIMORE – UMBC rising sophomore Hunter Dolshun (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) and rising junior Denis Mikush (Burke, Va./Robinson) have been selected as All-Stars in their respective summer baseball leagues. Dolshun has spent the 2014 summer in the Hamptons Collegiate Baseball League (HCL) with the Riverhead Tomcats while Mikush has been pitching for the Vienna River Dogs in the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League (CRCBL).
In the first half of the season on Long Island, Dolshun has hit .284 while clubbing two home runs and four doubles with a wooden bat. The Retriever infielder went 1-for-3 in the HCL All-Star Game for the North All-Stars, scoring once. In his first game of the summer, Dolshun went 2-for-5, smacking a homer and driving in four against North Fork. For the season, he is slugging .402 and has an on-base percentage of .357.
In Virginia, Mikush has been nearly unhittable for the River Dogs, fanning 19 batters in 11.1 innings of work. The slender right-hander has yet to surrender a run while yielding just four base hits, only one for extra bases, and issuing just four walks. He is 2-0 with one save in 11 appearances so far.
This is the second year in a row that Mikush has received the All-Star distinction after excelling for the River Dogs during the summer of 2013.
