Jessica Hammond is now serving the department as Senior Woman Administrator/Senior Associate AD for Student-Athlete Well-Being.
She also now serves as the academic advisor for the men's basketball program.
Hammond has been a valued member of the UMBC Athletic Staff since arriving in Baltimore in 2003. Formely, as Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Services, she supervised and coordinated the student support services for UMBC’s 19 varsity sports teams. The 1995 University of Connecticut graduate also oversaw student registration and served as the advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Council, while acting as a liaison with the campus student support services.
In 2010, she was selected to hold the position of Region I Director for the N4A organization (National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics). The purpose of N4A is to empower student-athletes to become more productive individuals through educational and personal development.
Hammond came to UMBC from LSU, where she served as the academic advisor in the College of Education. Prior to LSU, she spent close to three years at Tulane University as the senior academic counselor and primary counselor for women’s basketball, upperclassmen on the football team, men’s and women’s track and field, golf and tennis.
Hammond has also spent time as an academic advisor at the University of Pennsylvania and George Mason following her graduation from the University of Connecticut in 1995 with a bachelor of science degree in sports psychology. She later earned her master’s in sport psychology from Temple in 1997.
