Katie Watson joined the UMBC athletics staff in November 2013. She will serve as the academic advisor of the baseball, women’s lacrosse, cross country, and track and field teams.
Watson has previous experience working with college student-athletes. From 2012-2013, while attending graduate school at the University of Virginia, she served as a mentor for players on the men’s basketball team. During this time, she also worked at Piedmont Virginia Community College where she was a Student Success and Disability Services Assistant. After graduating from the University of Virginia in 2013, she became a student-athlete academic counselor at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. While at UAB, she worked with the baseball and women’s golf teams.
Watson has received her M.Ed. in Student Affairs in Higher Education from the University of Virginia, and her B.S. in Physical Education and Sports Management at Old Dominion University. While attending Old Dominion, Watson played on the Monarchs’ women’s soccer team. She earned NCAA Scholar All-American (2007), All-Region Student-Athlete (2006-2008) and Colonial Athletic Association First Team honors (2008) and served as team captain (2006-2008).
In 2008, Watson played professional soccer for the Washington Freedom.
