Graduate student guard Jairus Lyles of the men's basketball team has been named UMBC Athlete of the Week presented by Northwestern Mutual for the week ending 11/12.
Lyles debuted with a 24-point effort at SMU on November 10 and then torched No. 3 Arizona for 31 points two days later. He buried 7-of-14 shots from three-point range against a pair of 2017 NCAA Tournament teams and added 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds per outing.
Lyles has now has scored 30 or more points in five career games and 20 or more in 32 of 55 games played at UMBC. He has moved past Hall of Famer Darryl Proctor (‘09) into 15th place on UMBC’s all-time scoring list with 1,141 points.
