Senior goalkeeper Phil Saunders made four saves as UMBC blanked UMass Lowell, 2-0, on the road, Saturday afternoon. The Perry Hall, Md. native was named America East Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for games ending Nov. 2.
The Retriever senior made a diving stop off a header with 24 minutes to play and stopped a header in close quarters with 7:45 remaining. Finally, with less than four minutes remaining, Saunders kicked out a shot by Eric Martin, who had gotten behind the Retriever defense and broke in alone.
