Taylor McCarley, Women's Basketball, Freshman
Feb. 24 – March 2, 2014
Freshman Taylor McCarley (Bowie, Md./Academy of Holy Cross) was named the America East Rookie of the Week and the College Sports Madness America East Player of the Week after helping the Retrievers to a 66-60 double overtime victory against Binghamton that clinched the seventh seed in the upcoming America East Championships.
McCarley posted UMBC women’s basketball’s first-ever triple-double in Saturday afternoon’s game, finishing with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in the victory. The rookie’s triple-double was the first for an America East Player since 2010, when Mo Moran of Boston University tallied one on Nov. 11 against Yale and only the second in the history of UMBC basketball, with Marc Lay registering the only other on Jan. 16, 1995 against Coastal Carolina (12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists).
